Expected learning outcomes
- Identify and assess the mental health needs (clinical, educational, psychosocial) of the mentally ill person and the family
- Describe the social care institutions that can help to fulfill the unmet needs
- Design and implement a strategy to achieve these unmet needs
- Justify this management plan or strategy
- Help the mentally ill person and the family care givers to utilize these services to meet these needs
- Conduct mental health education to meet the identified educational needs of the patient and the family
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the management plan implemented
Learning tasks
- Obtain the necessary information and formulate a diagnosis
- Identify and assess the needs of the mentally ill person /family/, irrespective of the clinical diagnosis
- Study the current coping strategies of the entire family
- Identify what additional interventions are required to improve the prevailing situation
- Identify relevant community institutions that will provide such care
