Prof. Colvin Goonaratna - Head Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.
Prof.Colvin Goonaratna, has maintained a mutually productive relationship with Sahanaya for a considerable period of time. Sahanaya has been benefited by his professional advice and guidance basically on issues related to clinical rehabilitation.
He is an eminent physiologist who is also deeply interested in the development of mental health and mental health care. His continuing support is invaluable for the progress of Sahanaya and its activities.
Prof .Goonaratna has obtained MBBS (Ceylon) and completed MRCP (UK), PhD (University of Dundee, Scotland) and FRCP (Lond & Edin). He is a recipient of an Honorary DSc (Colombo). He is a Hon. Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, Sri Lanka, College of Surgeons. And also of the College of General Practitioners of Sri Lanka.
He has been awarded the ‘Visva Prasadini,’ Hon. Prime Minister’s award for services to medicine in 1996 and ‘Vidya Jyothi’, the highest award for science by His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka in 2005.

aratne has served as Professor (and Head of Department) in Physiology, Universities of Ruhuna and Colombo. He continues to serve as a member of the Supreme Council of the University of Kelaniya and as Registrar of the Medical College Council. The Government in recognition of his sustained and distinguished service to the medical profession has appointed him as a member of the Constitutional Council of Sri Lanka (July 2003 –July 2006), Chairman, State Pharmaceuticals Corporation of Sri Lanka (Sept. 1994 – Dec 2001 and Chairman, State Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Corporation of Sri Lanka (Sept 1994-Dec 1997)
He has been a member of a number of prestigious bodies, including the Sri Lanka Medical Association (1996) , General President, Sri Lanka Association for Advancement of Science (2003), Editor, Ceylon Medical Journal -1988 (continuing at present) , Co-Editor, Sri Lanka Prescriber, 1993 (continuing at present) and founder Chairman, National Clinical Trials Registry of SLMA.
He has published articles in the BMJ, Clinical Science and Molecular Biology, National Medical Journal of India, Indian Journal of Pharmacology and Physiology, and the Ceylon Medical Journal.
